In The Darkness Of The Night
The eyes they glowed like embers
In the darkness of the night
His teeth were sharp as razors
So very long, so very white
His hair was grey and sallow
Like some remnant from the past
His movement slow and treacherous
No shadow did he cast
Nothing would deter him
On this his chosen path
And as he moved towards me
Would this breath become my last
The smell then fell upon me
As a shroud  about my head
Then a strangled cry escaped me
Yet not a word he said
As he slunk back in the darkness
There was no turning back
Then he padded down the stairway
To curl up on the mat.
