The upcoming dark days give us time to reflect
upon those rich seasons past and those yet to be.
Itís in meditation that we can better see
the wisdom of Samhaim and to show it respect.
The sheer curtain that divides us from the spirits
becomes translucent enough for mortals to sense,
welcome, acknowledge, revere, and fear their presence,
think of the lives they led and keep their candles lit.
Fasting brings about clarity and purity.
Some may don disguises to ward off all evil,
but the prayers were meant to prevent upheaval.
Spells were cast to end hunger, bring serenity.
In celebration of the beginning darkness,
collect your thoughts as you collected your harvest.
Author's Notes:

Was done for a contest where All Hallow's Eve and All Saint's Day are considered sacred, a time of reflection about life and the afterlife.
