Like the Night
So like the night, your dark and empty eyes:
They promise everything I could desire,
Two blots of ink that mourn for absent fire;
Sweet, hollow promises that she belies―
And no fault of your own is their demise.
You've come too late, dear love, to love inspire,
Too late to brave a walk across my wire,
Or find the vanished stars in vacant skies.
A tiny ice floe in a frozen sea,
I'll drift where hands may reach, but never touch,
While waters black and shadows steal my sight;
I've offered not enough, and lost too much,
For eyes as rare as yours to fall on me
When nothing now can have me but the night.

I have  become quite the fan of the sonnet (and I cannot write one!) and I have got to say this is great. Dark as is Night.... My favorite line is Ill drift where hands may reach. but never touch.... That line is great! THe whole sonnet is great!
Lots of love for this piece,
