Moiraes' Choir
A siren song upon a distant shore,
So innocently called across the waves!
A lilting over scores of hidden graves―
And drawing to itself two victims more:
A selfish song of longing never stilled
Where loneliness has long been overrun;
But nothing stops the terror once begun,
And notes ring out, nor truthful, pure, nor willed.
And she would seek to cherish all who come,
But never truly wishes a reply―
The hypocrite who yearns with pipe and drum,
And drowns the dreams of all who happen by.
As sweet a lie as music could conceive;
As sweet as death for those whose hearts believe.
