My Baby Girl
             My Baby Girl
I wanted the best for you, my baby girl,
Knowing you would become another's precious pearl.
I promised to be brave and abundant in my wishes,
Trusting you would never lack for mother's sweet kisses.
With only a few moments to tell you life's great story,
Knowing you would hear my whispered words and never worry.
I promised to be like a blue bird perched upon your shoulder,
Trusting my words come back to you as you grew and got older.
My life became what i wished it to be...but never quite complete,
Knowing i wouldn't hear your giggle or the patter of your little feet.
I promised i would let you grow...just like in a secret garden,
Trusting the truth to reach your heart and yet never cause a burden.
Then one day...from out of the blue...came a message like no other,
Knowing well that it might be you...asking if i was your mother?
I promised then i would never let you go...just like a precious pearl,
Trusting that you found your way back to me, my love, my baby girl!
Author's Notes:
a true story told to me by my co-worker. She was a teen who became an un-wed mother.  She was brave enough to give her baby up for adoption 18 yrs ago. Before she let her go she used those precious few moments wisely and whispered in her ear the words that had to last a lifetime. Hoping, Trusting that one day they would find each other again.

This is your first post here and what a priceless and moving work to read. Touching to say the least...I know of another friend that gave up her child to adoption and realize what a supreme sacrifice was made. Heaven must surely have a special place for these Mothers.
Lovely and written with your signature softness and grace.

Very beautifully written with heart, Ljo...A loving story that I would imagine many mothers play out in life hoping, wishing for that call from their precious child...thank you for bringing this story to the site...
Margaret....Glad to read your library
