Friends see the one we are hoping to be
Standing straight and tall like a giant oak tree.
Are we actually brave enough to show who we really are?
Or only allow our friends to see us as a bright shining star?
Friends usually see us at our Sunday best
When we are all combed, showered, and nicely dressed.
To our friends we say the kindest things
Sharing our hopes and dreams with words that sing.
Friends can get sidetracked and temporarily lost
While some stick to our side no matter the cost.
Friends have to be content with the time that is spent
Giving freely, but not when it comes to paying the rent.
Friends tell us the truth tho it might be a shock
Allow us a chance for our true feelings to un-lock.
Friends have to know when to put on the brakes
But come to our rescue doing whatever it takes.
Yes, friends come and help us when we're sick a-bed
Watching the children and making sure they are fed.
And if we are really lucky we can't count all that we knew
I hope you count me as a treasured friend smiling back at you.
