My True Love
A very profound conversation I had with my Mother,
She expressed to me a Secret like no other.
If your True Love you are wishing to find,
Make a list of his qualities to keep them in mind.
Like a counselor, to my every word he would listen,
And with laughter each day he would warmly christen.
He touches my heart, and brings tears to my eyes,
Answers my questions, especially the "whys".
He tickles my funny bone just to hear me giggle,
But out of responsibility tries never to wriggle.
It's not important for him to be a true scholor,
Nor for him to be seeking the almighty dollar.
He should be able to show me a beautiful mind,
And what springs from his heart should be the genuine kind.
He understands my poems and writes a few himself,
Has deep emotions that he doesn't keep on the shelf.
How does he feel about my sons who are already grown?
He will treat them with honor as tho they were his own.
He will give me the courage and freedom to be myself,
And loves every part of me much more than himself.
He doesnt fuss and holler when things dont go his way,
He wants to be my Sugar Daddy when it comes time to pay.
It doesnt really matter the color of his skin,
For what i have learned from the Bible...we are all kin.
Whether he is a little "over" or perhaps excessively thin,
It's really his sterling qualities that my heart he will win.
He will be a good fisherman in every sense of the word,
For Jesus set the example, as I know you have heard.
And if he has a boat I will be glad,
But if he doesnt ...it wont make me sad.
Because these things are only possessions, tho not necessarily bad,
While it's with the coat of humility it's more important to be clad.
And if he has memories of someone he once held dear,
He must show me with loyalty that I have nothing to fear.
But most of all...he must take the lead in my worship to God,
And if he doesnt know what that means he might as well be planting sod.
These are some of the qualities of ones I have known,
But how nice it would be to have them all rolled into ONE! |
