I've crossed this plain of molten glass for you,
Its surface crumbling soft between my hands;
An unmarked sky lies vast upon these sands,
So different from the sky I thought I knew,
As if some veil of green and dark withdrew
To leave me in the wild and trackless lands:
Where sunlight makes the harshest of demands,
And presses down to bleach my body through.
A shimmer in the heat is passing by;
A restless ghost of me would break and run
In search of all the shadows in your smile,
Not caring that I dreamed you all the while―
Forgetting that I am the only one
To walk this burning world, who cannot die.
Author's Notes:
Being somewhere I've never been before, emotionally, and realizing that there's no going back to what we were.

This was both beautifully written and very very moving to me.
I know that place well.

Your feelings burn right through this desolate no-man's land. Rest assured, that when you know where you are, your time in that place is likely to be brief! Very well expressed. Thank you for sharing with us!
