The Voice of the River
a cool crystal beginning
so pristine and pure
cover me with your warm blanket
of soft green moss from your velvet banks
sing me a sweet lullaby with your tiny alpine flowers
that bloom between the rocks
and delight my sleepy eyes
winding river speaks
many languages...has many colors of  skin
wake me with your early sound of school bells
fill my storehouse to the brim
teach me with your sunshine and rainbows
unlock the secret person from within
dance me to the beat of a different drum
from your wide banks spring many answers
only I can see
teach me to listen to the wild voice of the river
take me to a new beginning
lift me up and set me free
O wild and raging river...swollen from the storm
my thighs no longer need your deep water
to keep them happy
just give me a shallow basin...
and a few dewdrops
to tickle my toes
find me a home
on your muddy banks
plant me with the cypress trees and  hanging moss
comfort me with Love's sweet bouquet
calm my fears...ease my strife
no longer pristine and pure your waters still hold the truth for me
I am grateful you have deposited me ever so gently
on the delta of my life....
Author's Notes:
the mighty Mississippi River marks its beginnging as a crisp mountain stream, gathers force, widens, deepens, narrows, swells with storms, changes course, deposits soil onto the river delta, and finally empties into the Gulf of Mexico.  This is my personal journey down the winding river and what it has taught me.

Linda Jo, the river seems to be a living metaphor of life around you and  reflects your sense of life within you. I really like this poem. And like it more each time I read it. Thanks, Mike.

the imagery of this work is insprirational in and of itself, but your way of weaving this story is masterful.  clearly deserving of this award.
