her life seemed so plain...
perhaps she was just tryin' to chase
away the summer-time blues
with a craft project of card-stock, fabric,
and various shades of glitter.
might it be a fair trade...
to exchange the black canyon days
of intense heat and despair
for a walk under the barren palo verde trees?
she was suddenly awakened from
her world of dreams...
was that a knock she heard
or just the desert wind
blowing a mouthful of sand against the door?
yesterday's silence was beginning
to walk away...
she finally found the voice
that had been held captive for years.
she waved good-bye with small fingers
and the makin' of a grin
the soft glow of the porchlight
caught each fleck of purple star dust
that sparkled on his light blue T-shirt,
khaki shorts and
whiskered chin.
the night....she discovered glitter
