It is a tremendous appetite you give me
dear one with your neatly plaited hair
for you challenge my every evening thought
as frogs sing their night song in turn from
each lilypad and ciccada's whirr their songs
did you not know the roast pork and cabbage
and carrots grated fine would be the juice
to the hungering jaw and wrapped in thin bread would
send a person into something nearly like ecstasy
Hewn wooden plates carry steaming rice
and bisquits crisped to golden caress the nostrils
the fireplace licks the flaming logs and a warmth
of home eases any pain of a worn long life
the apples are baked, see the sparkles of sugar
and cinammon ground off of a special tree
bless the ship that carried this spice around the world
dearest wife, you have set a repast before me
I will feast with you and gaze upon your gentle face
