Desert Walk
Touching my face with painted sunshine as it creeps
up and over the range of colbalt blue mountains

The breathless morning desert breeze cools me when
I take long walks through the tall yuccas
and perfume cacti summer blooms

I listen to the still peacefulness slowly strolling
through the colored volcano scattered rocks
watching out for spiny low dog cacti

Jack rabbits running through low rattllesnake bushes
birds flit from Mexican swords to mesquite trees

Desert willows in the winding creek beds wave
in the scented sweet wind with grace
tiny purple orchards

I have finally come back home among my own
native commanche people to always remain

~ Velvet Raven ~
