Stepped Into Icy Water

Slipped a note within your blanket

Placed a kiss upon your cheek

Stepped back into the icy water

Prayed your life would be complete.

Observed the beauty of an angel

Caressed your fingers...tiny toes

Promised I'd be a bluebird on your shoulder

Kissed again your tiny nose.

Grieved...I only had a minute

Nursed you once upon my breast

Rocked and told you life's great story

Finding you would be my quest.

Searched more than a thousand faces

Thought I heard your voice upon the wind

Blushed and tearful...did I make the right decision?

Poured my heart out to my friend.

Stepped back out of the icy water

Adjusted the loving halo above your head

Greeted you with arms wide open

Tied again the golden thread.
