The Beacon
Is it heaven or damnation
that lures a body to the light?
A lost soul seeking salvation,
a shining beacon in the night.
Is it trap or is it respite
that brings a body to this site?
The Watchman stands with candles lit,
a shining beacon in the night.
The final question, “Do we dare?”
If the need is great, flee in fright
or give ourselves to unknown care,
a shining beacon in the night.
Is it heaven or damnation?
A shining beacon in the night.

I've got to get out of this site ... the poems are triggering memories galore.  Yours just put me back at Fort Leonardwood, Missouri and AIT training.  They lit a match and asked us how far away it was.  Appeared to be 300 feet or so.   Turned out to be 900 yards.  The power of light at night is terrific.  Personally, I think of Light in terms of Christ.  Reread your poem with that thought in mind.  Amazing isn't it?   loved the poem
