(for Kay)

She listened to my hurting heart

while others did not know

my world had broken as I stood

in the white and glistening snow.

My pain was felt and shared by her.

Her eyes gave sign of this.

No judgment was to leave her lips,

No sorrowful artifice.

Never did she speak harsh words,

though she hurt from reading pain.

She drew the words from within my soul.

I learned myself again.

I learned of worth to otherís lives.

I learned I cried within.

I learned I loved and could also share

anotherís unearned sin.

The words I felt within my mind

she welcomed to this world.

Though made of oak, Iíd shared my hurt.

Her emotion oft kept burled.

As I slowly grew and gained in life

the lessons my youth had missed,

my excited eyes found a teacherís heart.

Her teacherís soul I kiss.

Author's Notes:
She listened at a time when I needed a friend.
She taught me a love unseen by most.
She had a teachers heart that motivated me
to write when I could not speak my emotions.
Because of her my poetry grew and is still growing.
She is a teacher who knows how to reach and inspire.
And no ... she is not my wife.
She is a friend.
