Towering proudly on wings unseen
flies a billowing steeple of white.
In the eyes of a small and searching boy
t’is a huge and wondrous sight.

Around its fringes, with static concealed
builds a storm of enormous power
causing animals below to dash in terror;
nature’s children to hide and cower.

A lightning bolt fires from deep within,
instant death for where it strikes,
scattering all beneath its blitz,
scurrying humans on soggy bikes.

Dark gray clouds begin to boil
and thunder stirs the skies.
A sash slams shut on a window sill
giving shelter to apple pies.

Trees dance midst the blowing winds
with leaves curling round and down.
The sunlight finds an open hole,
offering clouds a golden crown.

Fire and light brighten the skies
while thunder roars with rage.
Raindrops travel parallel to earth
filling the water gage.

Author's Notes:

I can sit and watch thunderstorms for hours on end.
