Outstretched wings on currants of air.

Outstretched wings no longer paired.

He circles high, with lonely eyes.

He circles crying …for his love dies.

For his fallen love, life is done,

downed by lead fired in fun.

A pain.  A sting.  A loss of breath,

Joined further in lamented death.

Author's Notes:

Quite often, if you hunt geese and you shoot one,
you can stick around and get the other.  Canadian geese mate for life.
I used to hunt, but haven't for over twenty years.

What a lovely and sad poem.  I think this could also be applied to the human condition of loss as well.
