A Taste of Summer

summer's child...
she is wrapped in sunshine
like watermelon juice dripping down the chin
she proves a positive attitude will bring
untold treasures to your life
she touches people one by one

under summer's sparkling sky...
she is drawn to her ocean retreat
sand castles become mansions of dreams
children laugh and play at her feet
roaring seas echo singing sky
all to take her breath away

a taste of summer...
she is affectionate and sweet
does not confuse the loving acts of
community service with
deeper tones of true love
only her man hears the words
honey, hold my hand while I
tell our love story on Delilah

summer's twin...
cries when children have no hope
when violence steals their dreams
and robs them of security with shame
she makes sure her own feel
the warmth of love and support
the one thing she regrets...
absent from her own childhood

yes, she is a summer's twin
a taste of summer's warmth
under summer's sparkling sky
she is summer's child....

a twin called, symmer

Author's Notes:
my dedications are written not to flatter or give praise but to try to capture the essence of my friends on C-P who have touched my heart...and yours...in a similar way.
this one is for my friend sHeRi...summer's twin,  we know her as symmer.
she says she has no nickname...but really she has two...symmer and summer

Lovely poem about someone who is summer all year 'round to all that she touches. The poem gave me a sense that symmer projects more than just a taste of summer.

I am so beside myself right NOW. Linda-I have no words to express my gratitude for this piece. I never thought I could make an impression on someone, let alone be read as well as you and all these others have read me. My aunt always told me to wear my garment like a loose shirt and live freely and not tightly wrapped. And over the past few months here I have done that with you guys and it paid off. I lived privately and served my community but never thought to connect with people miles and miles away. It has been the best experience of my life.

Your words are so perfect..I cried through every word in joy and from finally feeling accepted and understood. And as for Delilah...that women can make me weep..sure right about her. My heart you all speak of is even bigger now. Thanks you so much.

I regret not connecting with everyone earlier in my arrival at CP..Travis was the one who took my hand and guided me to you all..Thanks Travis-for believing in me and pushing me to all these wonderful people..

You and all the others are amazing!!!! What a great EASTER!

This was perfection in itself. And on one that I know as 'My pretty', who to me is a charming, beautiful and most loving woman, that I have had the greatest pleasure in meeting.. They say every once in awhile we meet someone that truly touches us deep inside, well Sheri is that one they mean...  For her aura is as white as the shining light above.. And that is a fantastic thing..

Linda Jo, you are one terrific lady, friend, and one heck of a writer. Your pen is golden my friend, and we are all lucky to be in the circle of love, as I call it. It is so warm in there.. (Smile)

i've only been hanging around here since november, but i surely didn't need you notes to know you were paying tribute to that talented writer who has some problems with capitalization!  it's a wonderful work, a true reflection of a special person.  bravo!

What a gourgous dedication to Sheri! This is devine and right on target with the beautiful person she is. Your poetry really holds the true meaning of love eand giving. You Linda Jo are such a sweet and considerate lady. I love how you find the beauty in all of us and then show  us so much more beauty within your words. I think these words  are fantastic. I think it is light and airy  and such a warm poem!
