Wrath

Why is it people seem to think
the world revolves around them,
that “their’s” are the world’s most important problems;
are the stitches that hold the world’s hem?
That if their job was not to get done
the world would fall apart
for without their presence in the early morn
the day just would never start.
Why is it that these people think
I have nothing better to do than open their door?
I’m not at work.  My body’s just here,
waiting for my tea to pour.
I like to relax, let my mind flow free,
collect my thoughts before the start of day.
While yes, I like my job and I like the people,
I do … do my job for pay.

My bills need paying.  I too, have desires
of things I would like to do.
If it weren’t for the pay, I’d be somewhere else
and you ... could do for you.
The world won’t stop.  You won’t fall off.
It will keep turning its wobbly path.
You’d learn to do the things I do
or you’d feel your creditor’s wrath.
So get off of your butt.  Stand on your own two feet
and feel your physical might.
Though you may not think you can accomplish the task.
You’ll learn to do it right.
You’ll learn the feeling of a good day’s work,
of both physical and mental pain.
You’ll learn the feeling of working wet
while standing in a puddle of rain.

You’ll learn to do the things beneath
the dignified life you lead.
You’ll learn to smile, to nod your head
if your family you wish to feed.
Life’s not all a “bed of roses.”
There are hardships as well as joys.
How would you know just when to duck
with no affliction to destroy?
Conquer the suffering.  Defeat the need.
Learn the power of success.
Straighten the path on which you will walk.
Your life doesn’t need all the mess.

Author's Notes:
It used to be I'd get to work early so that I could relax and sort out my upcoming day.  People would show up and expect me to start doing everything under the sun for them.

I don't work that way.

Leave me alone until I'm ready to start my day.
Poor planing on your part does not constitute an automatic emergency on mine.
