From the Inside Out
Some people live from the outside in;
absorbing everything through the skin,
and most of life never reaches that part
of the inner being we call the 'heart'.
But when you are a poet, life is turned about
and you experience everything from the inside out.
Your heart interprets life line by line,
then your feelings flow out in rhythm and rhyme.
But a true poet always knows
that he's merely a channel through which life flows;
and takes no credit for his inspiration,
but gives all glory to the Author of Creation.
Author's Notes:
I was inspired to post this after reading 'singing feelings' by oldguy.
(Forgive me if I presume, Gene.)

oh  this is great...I like your perception of a poet.  Yes, we are certainly different and see things so much differently than others.  this reminds me of a qoute from Allen Ginsberg.  "I'm a stenographer of my mind. I write down what passes throught it, not what goes on around me. I am a poet"  I appreciate how you pointed out that we get inspiration from the writings of other poets.  Ljo
