My Trucker
His hazel eyes are squinted
from looking into the sun;
his arms are bronzed and corded
from heavy work he's done.
Shoulders broad and narrow hips
speak of a body kept well-trimmed;
and a restlessness in his stance
says passion for life is undimmed.
There is not a road he does not know,
nor a mile he has not been;
there is nothing left to show him
he has not already seen.
He does not suffer fools;
expects from each a fair amount;
 he is rough around the edges,
but, oh, so gentle when it counts.
For deep inside of him
where only few can see,
beats a tender, loving heart
which he now shares with me.

Beautiful Barbara.. I loved how your description brought forth his image in my thoughts. I could just picture him as you stared and wrote on your feelings for him.. Like wow!

This poem has a joyful lilt and admiration written into each line. You do this trucker proud Barbara...kudos to you! A good heart is the greatest treasure. There is certainly nothing wrong with "rough around the edges" can be quite appealing actually. Enjoyed this! =))

Barbara:  very well written.  It sums up a trucker very well.

A very nice easy to read tribute to what I assume is the man in your life. I like this one.
