Messages In Bottles
Breathe deep, breathe slow.
This is going to hurt you more than I could ever know.
The messages in the bottles sank to the bottom
further than we could begin to fathom.
You had them; those closely guarded secrets,
the deepest of sentiments purged from my soul.

Don't dive to the depths to unlock those chests
to find them full of S.O.S. signals in dismal pretense.
You were meant for better than that.
Whereas I was meant to drown.
How I managed to resurface is meaningless now.
For you found the bottles I'd tossed to a watery grave
never expecting to be saved.
But you gave and you gave.

Save yourself and head to the shores
where more will await you
where I cannot go to..
I wanted to be like you.
But instead, I was meant to just watch you
stumble through the sand with those bottles in hand,
broken glass on the strand with shards where you stepped
and tightly clasped to your chest, those messages you'd recovered
from the dark, dingy waters still infecting my wounds.
I'll always wait for you.

Just breathe, and I'll be wading,
patiently waiting,
forever anticipating
the day those waves will surrender to the listless broken pleads
of the heart within me, and those others that did love
those messages I sealed away so long ago
now broken, empty bottles
the world will never know.
