Crazy
I hate so much that you still make me crazy.
After all of these years, I still think that just maybe
you will come back around.
I should know better by now.
We've both found other things, other means, while doing without
the comfort we found in one another's words.
It's absurd to think now they were nothing more than words.
It hurts to know how they got turned upside down and twisted around
and disappeared in a shroud of the darkness of our hurt.
I never once asked of you anything more than your love.
But that was too much, and I know that enough
to remember you fondly, and only that at best.
I'm no longer chasing best; the wind's at my chest
until I turn around and feel it push at my back,
coaxing me back to where it all began;
to retrace my steps until the point where we met,
then take another path so I'm not hurt again.
But you still wear my necklace, and I still have your piece
of embroidery you lovingly crafted for me.
And I still have your alter; I still have your picture.
I still think of withered red roses and splinters.
But it means nothing to you. You love nothing like I do.
I know I'm a fool, but I'll always be for you.
Because you still drive me crazy
to the brink of insanity.
But that's why you loved me.
The only one who'll ever know me.
