Diamond in the Rough
My wits have long gone,
so I wrote a simple song
just to avoid the inevitable "We need to talk".
I don't want  to talk; and neither do you.
Neither one of us do.
It's the truth that frightens us; even if we never knew.
The words spew:
"I love you"
"I don't know if I do"
"Do you?"
"I need you"
"I heed you"
"I see you"
"How could you?"
I didn't mean to.
And I know you didn't either.
Neither one of us could possibly see what was beneath us
just before we dove into
this beautiful mess.
I'm depressed, and we're about to drown.
You've gone down under a sea of passion,
while I'm dancing in the darkness; shark infested sections.
I hate this, and just can't face it.
This reality that somebody would be willing to take their chances
and someone who's this damaged.
How sad is it?
And I'm mad at this because of how much I hate myself.
Why don't you hate me?!
Why do you try to save me?
I'm not some baby,
though maybe you could hold me for just a little while..
I'm so riled up, and I don't want to talk.
Just walking away would be so much easier,
but I'm no coward, even if I'm shaking.
I'll stick around; at least until I figure out what still ails me.
I just wish for your sake, you'd bail on me.
This diamond in the rough was never meant for beauty.

Oh God, help me..
