Time is short on this planet we stand in
And still we never know how it will be handed
Our clocks drip tiny tears onto photos that are candid
Because happiness was a dream that was supplanted
Spend a lifetime questioning and we still wouldn't understand it
I'll never know why it takes our hearts to be rocked
To figure out how we've taken our time for granite
We have our minds set in stone and give value to diamonds
When its hard enough to hold on to our own enchantments
There were times I wished I believed in a higher being
To protect my tiny human insecurities as I chanted
In verses of ancient tongue on the frailty of the sabbath

But watching others do the same left my heart irrevocably damaged

Because I watched fear grow where it shouldn't be
In a mother who says she believes in faith but not in your beliefs
What's a heart to learn when it's taught to turn the other cheek
But then hears hate in the underlying speech?
It grows up not believing in 'practicing what you preach'
Sundays where they were taught to seek peace
Suddenly become about who else is preventing that reach
Instead of seeking what they need
Concrete minds - we keep forgetting we're really seeds
We travel in the wind and live with no guarantees
We constantly fit everything in into what we already believe
But it's not just prayer that has become ammunition for the weak
It's failing to see how anything we hold tight makes others bleed
I only learned that when I went back on that courtesy
And realized I hurt you just as much as I felt it hurt me
But I have no excuse as to why I so failed to see
I let my religion blind me and act in cruelty
And now I know I'm just as breakable as I let you be
I just hope one day you can forgive that mistake
Because I'll never be able to forgive me

How I wish I could believe in something... anything
Anything so I just didn't feel so cold
Sedimentary hopes feel so stuck in the mold
Because I watched a child die when bullies wouldn't leave her alone
I watched a man die because he wasn't worth the value of his home
I watched a woman die because her punishment was the humility of stones
I watched a king die so tell me then what's the value of a throne
When it'll only take myself to die before any light is shone

Lifetimes - somethings in life were just not meant to be known
My only answer to this is to let others believe in what they know
Trust in what they feel even if it comes only from what they were told
And never hold your own beliefs so tight you become blind to the unknown
Because words alone can crucify another's bones
And in the end we all must live with answers that are full of holes
Now I'm in a place where I'll never really know
If two religions can forgive each other before it's their time to go
And if those hands were ever really mine to even hold

Lifetimes - somethings in life are just out of our control
It's in this I've found what it means to let it all go
And no
Knowing this doesn't mean the same tears won't flow
Or save this vessel from the perpetual cold
Blood and tissue weren't meant to permeate alone
And if you read this on my rock let it remind you not to cast the first stone

Your tears were not alone... Mine too have split to this canvas
I let myself go in the last belief I had to see our universe may have expanded
I felt that tiny fears end up growing flowers where they have landed
But even lost seeds will never know how they'll be replanted
