Memories Refilled

Glazed eyes and full stomachs
relax as the yearly, November meal ends.
Too quickly the pungent odors pass
and the excited anticipation
vanishes into the forgotten memories
of the long hours spent in preparation.
Where have the seldom seen relatives gone;
so quickly did they come and then go?
Gone again,
[... T h a n k   God !!!]
till the odors and holidays return in the coming year.
until new memories desire to seep into our lives
much as the morning mists silently slip
into each awakening day.
overlapping conversations,
and sleeping minds
have emerged once again,
only to be overcome
and silenced
by the multitudes of foods
stuffing our swollen bellies.
Contentment creates relaxation,
and relaxation
[and I have to do the dishes]
cat-napping bodies and minds.
Next year will be different,
but of course,
that is what I said last year.
