Summer Church Camp

water trickles, drips ... drop
the cat licks my lolly-pop
boys giggle ... girls scream
there's a big black snake
by the old mill stream
the hike is on ... five miles today
as long as there's sunlight
and the sky's not gray
chase the girls
make them scream
strawberry shortcakes
with cold whipped cream.
climb the hill
the camp's up there
with the clear blue sky
and smokeless air
smokeless air?
oops ... that's wrong

Author's Notes:

Everything about me was beautiful

and then very rapidly
my day's thoughts changed.
That was many decades ago.
We have learned a little over the years.

Hahaha! Not a whole lot. But I remember camp. You've done it justice. ML

You got me with this one Gene, I was rolling along with the rhythm of it and then you threw in that twist at the end! Excellent.   Henry

I liked this write.  i think that as our youth goes so does our mood and our hearts even harden along with time. depression sets in and takes hold. but hold strong believe it or not we are still young with eternity at our heels. Always maggie.
