Concrete Fish
(New Hampshire to Texas
I really did not want to go))

Ker-thunk  Ker-thunk.  Go up and down
The roadway ... it speaks to me.
A concrete mirror before my eyes
As far as I can see.
Heat distorts a blistering view.
Iím dreaming water where it is dry.
If I donít finish my journey today,
Dear God, I may just die.

Ker-thunk  Ker-thunk.  More up and down
The roadway ... again speaks to me.
I dream of a quiet and standing brook;
The shadow of a giant tree,
A fishing pole within my hand,
The tug upon my line.
In front of me lies a concrete brook.
Cool images before my mind.

Ker-thunk  Ker-thunk.  Bounce up and down
The roadway ... still speaks to me.
Donít fall asleep the dayís not done.
Donít want to be debris.
Wake up mind.  I shake my head.
I hear rattles between my ears.
My journey started two days ago;
To my butt it feels two years.

Author's Notes:

Throughout the trip I had a feeling of pending doom.
I don't think I
really expected to survive the trip.
But, I did.  Fooled him.

"The roadway ... it speaks to me."
His English teachers would roll over in their graves
if they saw him do that
with their precious language
