Diner Banter

I find that I've been here before.

I'm lured to these same places...these same faces draw me.

These same tables call me to their humble comforts.

It's a wonder I'm still here.

After all these years, I feel a strong part of me has all but

disappeared.

So I sit here, at this careless diner

and ponder the meaning of all that was and all that will be.

I'm feeling listless; nostalgic. This deja vou of haunting thoughts,

the lessons taught to me that I was too late to see.

Still too flighty; too thoughtless.

Too lost in the tragedy of the moments I will never get back.

Hm....how sad.

Even now, I'm in a back corner, barely acknowledged.

It's been 2 hours, and 2 refills of hot chocolate.

I thought that coming here would bring me to focus,

but I should know that this only brings regret,

and I feel that I'm out of place.

And I find myself burning to run away.

But to what this time?

The world has never been kind.

So, with that, I should probably be on my way.

It's getting late, however young the night may be.

These seats still greet me, but also say goodbye.

It's time to leave the confines of this reverie and face what's now my life.

The chilly air; the fair autumn sky;

a lifeless reminder that time waits for no one

and that we all end up

cold.

It's the only truth we really know.

I'll pay a nickel for the service.
