Endless Is Misery

Endless Is Misery

Loneliness like a blanket

I am wrapped in sorrow

Emptiness so vast a concept

Yet I am its epicentre

Darkness my old friend

Coldness icy fingers clasp

Grips your very soul

Childless left abandoned

On my own regardless

Friendless save the night-time

Emotionless for protection

Never let your heart unguarded

Loveless walk alone forever

Never trust another soul

Endless is the misery

Wretchedness my bedfellow

Lifetime in limbo

Bleakness a harsh reality

Buried in the sands of time

I am alive -- nevertheless

Author's Notes:
About a year ago I was racked with depression -- an amalgamation of low self-esteem and hopelessness.  This in written form approaches the feeling...

... and whence 'd come from most of masterpieces if it wasn't for depressed poets and other artists?! Where there is a depression, will come an elation, giving birth to brilliance ..., ~Dean

Glad you're back from that depression and can write about how it affected you. Keep using that talented pen of yours.

In this life we all wear the heavy coat of depression.... When its time we take it off!!

I understand this poem very well...

A cousin of mine, knowing i write poetry, once asked me, 'Why are poets so depressed?'  I had no answer for her, but her question has stayed in my mind -- I find too much truth in it.  Now i almost assume most poets are depressed sometimes for long periids of life.  Does anyone else think that's true?  Sad, this poem.  We know how it feels, what? --David
