House On The Moor

House On The Moor

Wind swirling across the moor

It stands majestic commanding all

A house in splendid isolation calls

And my heart would answer yes

Will this cause me any duress?

To venture forth across the falls

And to the front porch pay a call

There to rest my hand upon the door

Not since a troubled childhood here

My thoughts dissemble stay unclear

So fond yet unpleasantness rests here

A death about which we are hushed

Nan did she jump or was she pushed

As children innocent - - no questions asked

Now I rest my hand upon the door

The staircase and the kitchen floor

Ghostly voices of memories past

About the family member passed

I open the door and it welcomes me

The open shell is filled by memory

Ghosts walk from room to room

No thoughts of tragedy and doom

I am here absorbed completely

As I walk around it speaks to me

She calls me on the wind Nan

Still retained here not yet free

I smile and blow to her a kiss

This was a journey not to miss

I am happy now and so too the house

Smooth and easy to read -- despite the unsettling circumstances.  I can't tell if it's a true story or not; I guess there's no real difference -- when it comes to poems...   Well, I don't know,  but I rather think it imagination than reality -- to be sure.  Thanks for another wonderful poem!  --David
