Goodbye Sis'

Goodbye Sis’

You waited sister - - you waited for me

I was the last to make the final trip

The hospital - - so stark – I bit my lip

The tears already here – I came to see

I was shown by the staff nurse to your room

The lights were low and I could see a shape

You slept – a blessing – my mouth was agape

This was not my sister there in the gloom

Huddled in damp bedclothes – curled in a ball

Tubes in every possible part of you

I bit down on a finger – more tears now

I sat by your bedside and took your hand

You woke - - looked at me tiredly and then smiled

Then you closed your eyes and left us alone

Author's Notes:
My sister was in Addenbrooke's hospital with Leukaemia.  She had seen all the family near the end apart from me.  I finally got to see her and as I held her hand she passed away...

Oh my.. I am so sorry for your loss. I know how it feels to loose someone you love, a hard and unforgettable thing, it is.. I just wish you peace, and the memories to keep within you forever to give comfort when you need them..

Much love

Moonie xx

When my mother woke from open heart surgery we first saw her on the gurney going back to ICU.  The sheet covering her kept moving as she tried to get it off her hand.  The worried look on her face left when I took it in mine.  Connection to someone loved is very important.  I simply said, "Yes, you are alive"  Comfort came over her expression and she went to sleep.  We saw her later in her room.  All she had wanted was the connection and she got it.  Glad you could take her hand for your sister.  That probably meant more to her than anything else you ever did in your life
And now, for you ....  We all have been taught that heaven is a much better place than here on earth and we desire to "Go back home."  Be happy for her .... Her journey is over and she is there.  Be sad that you no longer have her here physically, but be happy for her.  She is home with Heavenly Father.  She's made it.  Know that ... Families are Forever.  You will see her again when she opens the door for you.

Allistair, I am so sorry for your loss. By being there when she passed you gave her the greatest peace and you also achieved some closure with her as well. May your grief pass in it's own time and may you recall her with the fondest of memories.   Henry

There is nothing I can say except that we cannot question
G-d's ways.  A terrible and painful loss.  What suffering!

Mourning can take a lifetime.  I'm so sorry...   --David
