I always thought I could handle it
I mean, when things were through
I'd cowboy up and endure, but never quit
Even when it came down to you
But, you see, I was a liar, I lied to myself
When I said that time wouldn't change me
I put my emotions in a jar, on the shelf
But the jar fell and broke, I spilled out, you see
I know that nothing in this life goes on forever
Especially when you really, really want it to
But I foolishly thought we'd always be together
Because I hinged everything in my life on you
And so it goes, that there was a rude awakening
Of all my dreams, serenity, hopes and trust
When everything crashes 'round you, it's shakening
And all those golden plans you made have turned to rust
I now know that I don't handle change well, at all
As a matter of fact, I become a bowl of jello
Ever have your life show you that you're really small
And that streak running down your back, bright yellow?
A fake, phony and fraud, is what I turned out to be
A paper lion is all that I really am, you know
Now that you're gone, I don't know what will become of me
Maybe it's best for all that I choose to go
For what is a man, what has he really got?!
If he can't conform to an ever changing world, you see
If not himself, then he really, truly has not
Yet in the end, time won't change me....
Author's Notes:
NOOOOO, NOT about me! Another experimental, an exercise in fear of the unknown.

This is brilliant.  Change happen all the time.  and we should not be afraid of it. Everything changes but the word "change" itself!  . Isn't that amazing how we keep changing every second?!.  We are allowed to change.  It's OK to change.  Loved it Sir Hawk.  ~Dean

You had me fooled -- I was in distress!  So glad it's not you, Hawko!  We can't have YOU in the dumps too -- just stay where you are, what?

A good exploration of the unknown which is beautifully written -- excellent flow and rhyme.  I really enjoyed it
