If You Could See What I Hear
Blind from birth, but in reality, I am truly blessed
For I am in tune with the world and everything in it
God didn't take from me, he gave me a beautiful gift
The gift to be plugged into nature and her wonders
Most people hear birdsong, but they only hear chirping
When I experience a robin sing....I hear a symphony
Every note perfectly pitched, a glorious chromatic treasure
It makes my joyful heart sing in  amazing appreciation
Then there is the ocean, the magnificent  waves thundering
Like the tympany drums in an orchestra....ezquisite resonance
The wind, whistleling through a narrow plaza at high noon
The upper end of a soprano aria, sung by young maidens
It brings a tear to my dead eyes and fills them with new life
And have you ever heard a coyote in the high desert?
Two or more, wailing in a mournful, ethereal harmony
It chills the spine in a very  lovely, surreal, hypnotic way
All these things I see, by hearing their magical canticle
Do you understand what I'm meaning? Is it in you to see?
The miracle of a newborn baby's cries in it's mother's bosom
All the melodious magic in a child's angelic choir
Oh, my friend, you are missing the most wonderful things in life
Things that most all sighted folks have taken forever for granted
That is why I tell you how great my life is, don't feel sorry for me
Because if you could see what I hear, you'd swear you were in Heaven!

Congratulations on your well-earned award! You have produced an authentic description of the experience. I was blind for several years and it was during that time I discovered a desire and ability to write poetry. There were times when I truly felt nearer heaven. Good work. ML

Wow! You really know how to write something VERY DEEPLY inspirational. Very sweet and very nice of you to share this poem. Excellent. When we hear or read things, we form an image in our mind which is 10 times better than real. Nicely expressed. Shajeea.....

Ahhh, but I do.    I love what you hear and yes, I envy the thought.  But, you see, I hear the same thing through poetry like this.  I live within the written words of the poet's heart.  I travel with their explorations.  I cry to their hurts.  I love when they love.  You write, I feel.  And with this poem I joined in your blindness and sorrowed for those who will never see your beauties.  Thanks for taking my hand and allowing me to "see."

Nature has given me new hope and the ability to find peace in my life.  A wonderfully piece of the beauty that is their for us to see and hear if we would only open our eyes and ears.
