He'll Make Sure....
As children, we all want what we want, when we want it
Perhaps, a selfish notion, as it may appear to some
But some of us adults remain that way, throughout our lives
So kids can't be scolded for their childish ways....no matter what may come

But sometimes the things we wish for, aren't really right for us
Although we still want them, just because we "think" it's right
And at times, we end up with something that is not to our liking at all
Who is to blame in truth, but ourselves, for this most blatent oversight

But things needn't be this way, if only we keep our heads
Thank goodness for the Lord, who keeps a constant vigil from above
He guides us in our daily lives, if we really want him to
With common sense and wisdom, but most of all....His love

Whenever we think that what we do is right, He'll tell us if it's so
By proving that all in life is not what we really think we understand or see
But oft times, a deception, to drive us to the wrong choices
If we would only stop and "think" sometimes, we can be all we can be

The human condition dictates that we are just who we are
But we needn't be so foolish to think that we know it all
If more of us followed His guidance, this would be a better world
And perhaps then, we would seek not to live with such arrogance and gall

By asking for those things that do us no good, who do we really fool?
We fool ourselves in the long view, it's high time that we take heed
That He cares for and loves us all, that we should realize His true intent
That He won't always give us what we want....but He'll always give us what we need!

Reminds me of the wisdom of the Rolling Stones...."You can't always get what you want, but if you try sometimes, you just might find-you get what you need."....len

Absolutely Tomahawk...this is great wisdom served piping hot in the pot of earnest frankness.

Great reminder.

God has discussed this with me many times...it's an important lesson~

Wise words we all need to live by. We must all remember not to lose faith when we do not get the answer

we want to our prayers. Sometimes the answer is 'yes', sometimes 'no', sometimes it's 'not now'. He knows

all, and in time all will be revealed to us.

Tomahawk, "You can't always get what you want". You get what you need.  A nice poem. M

All the way through the poem I had exactly what I was going to write in my comment.  Then what happens?  In your last line, you write my comment  for me.

" ... He won't always give us what we want....but He'll always give us what we need!"

That is an eternal promise he makes to all His followers.

Beautiful

I have found that the most basic of human instincts is motivated by the need for instant gratification. We don't want to wait for anything, we want it yesterday! But your words put things in proper perspective Len, excellent poem and not long winded at all.    Henry
