The Race

The Race

The noise and smell of the oil

Sun reflects off the cars;

Crowds of people flock

To the stands and the pits;

Others quaff in the many bars.

Engines start up hearts race

The spectacle draws near;

Cars stream off the starting grid

The practice lap begins;

A chance to steady the fear.

And so they re-form

Engines and pulse rates scream;

The lights are lit and ready to...

Go out clutches engage drive;

Away to do battle they stream.

A metaphor -- in spite of itself.  This is about life.  It's a race all right.  Great writing, sir!  --  David
