School Memories

School Memories

The echo of my footsteps fills the air

I am alone with my thoughts and feelings;

Throughout the school a great sense of despair

It waits and the silence to me now sings;

How long it's been since last I walked these halls

Such was the time of youth and innocence;

When laughter filled the rooms from floors to walls

And gleaned we education diligence;

Now what is the final compensation?

For the silence and the now empty room?

Memories good and bad a connection

That brings the place into light from the gloom;

I find my old desk and I take a seat

At that precise moment I feel complete.

Good and bad memories of our younger days. You have expressed them very well. Enjoyed reading

Good memories -- yes, I have good memories of school also.  Since I now live in another State, I can't physically visit my high school or such anymore.

Well at least one of us enjoyed school: for me it was a nightmare.  I wouldn't go back there if you paid me.  It was Hell.  But still I appreciate your good writing and am happy for you -- if surprised -- that your schooling was lovely.  Or is this fiction?  --David
