New York At Night
Life begins at night, here in the city
wherever you go, the tempo picks up
anything you want, a taxi ride away
uptown, downtown, eastside, westside
all around the town....the town jumps
A ride through Central Park at night....
in a hansom cab, with a special friend
a slow trot, in the stary, stary night
a nocturnal romantic interlude ensues
just a certain je ne sais quoi to it
Culture lives in hallowed halls, all here
Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center
Avery Fisher Hall, The New School
beckoning the aesthetic heart in one
a Bruckner symphony or Count Basie
Times Square, 42nd street, The Village
far more adventurous and avant guarde
a right smart coffee house in the offing
listen to some poetry, sip an espresso
let the ambiance have it's desired effect
Gramercy Park and local colour, lives
street  vendors, selling the world to all
jazz clubs emulate the pulse of the city
the Manhattan skyline, like so many jewels
the nightime....always is the right time
The chaotic beauty that is Grand Central
logistic access to all points, all the time
Circle Line, America's favourite boat ride
a maritime odyssey along the East River
the dockside outdoor restaurants come alive
So much is at hand for the aspiring nightbird
because the real city....the true New York
is what the night is always about, evermore
and it's there for all to see, just for the taking
New York at night....the city that never sleeps
Author's Notes:

For my good buddy Dave and his great town and my many adventures in the Big Apple....priceless

What a picture you paint! I've never been there, but I would love to go, even more so now!!

Thanks for the beautiful hometown portrait!  Sometimes I forget the beauty here -- although I always appreciate the transportation choices -- since I have no car and no longer drive (not that there's a parking space in the whole city).  From the sound of it -- you know more about this place than I do!  You'll have to take me on a tour!  Thanks, sir.   --Dave

My home town closes at 11pm sharp. Your poem makes me want to go and look at this great city. Great work.
