She was looking for powder pink sand,
clear turquoise water, night air heavy with dreams,
and the fragrance of lavender roses.
What she found was more than a tropical distination.
It was the home of colorful art, lively music,
soulful dancing...a poet's paradise.
She eagerly accepted an invitation to Junkanoo;
a colorful parade, wildly energetic,
and inspired by music that once surfaced
upon her midnight dreams.
She found treasures sailing adrift clear blue water.
Sunbeams rode every galloping wave.
Dainty starfish and rainbow seashells added sparkle
to the powder pink sand that began life as underwater coral; broken,
sifted and tossed ashore
by wicked storms from the sea.
She discovered the true Bahamian welcome,
warm wishes that reflected her sunny disposition.
"Let's worry about the bad things tomorrow."
"Today we embrace life with a smile."
A full line of clean clothes, jeans, brilliant Tees,
white cotton sheets snapping corners in the breeze
and later dressing her bed with the scent of the Bahamian sun
and lavender roses.
The full moon spoke delicious thoughts to her talkative friends
who found a home outside her bamboo windows.
Bahamian swallow, yellow throat, and woodstar,
all nesting in the silk cotton trees.
Yes, she found what she was looking for...
clear turquoise water, night air heavy with dreams,
the fragrance of lavender roses...
and powder pink sand.
