The Button
"Press the button! Press the button NOW”

The scientists watched the black hole forming

"Jesus !  We have to stop this, some how”.

After years of failure the Hadron accelerator

Actually began to do its stuff

But predictions of disaster soon

Proved to be true enough.

Professor Von Schittipants

Even pulled the plug out from the wall

But much to his dismay

It had no effect at all.

The cleaning lady, Hilda

Said "I told you not to mess”

We’re all doomed, yes doomed

If this gadget’s a success.

Many did "a runner”

But never made it to their cars

The universe imploded

Because man’s a stupid arse.

Don't discount the deep waters of a cleaning lady's mind. I remember the biggest fear some scientists had before the first testing of the A bomb was that the chain reaction would fire-up the atmosphere and destroy the earth.

Why we would need to create black holes is beyond me. I guess the answer is, if a thing can be done, humans feel compelled to do it. Funny and scary at the same time, Bill. You have a wonderful way of using humor to make us think about very serious subjects...len

That's a good boy!  Even YOU are entitled to a day off.  There's nothing as refreshing as a good bit of pessimism -- keeps things balanced, what?  Good writing, Billy.   Love, David
