her story
she turned 30 years old
surrounded herself with friends and partied,
then swept her other half and herself to a new state for the weekend
to do more traveling, more exploring
this is what she expected from her thirties
just more good times, more adventures
some escaping here and there
from the monotony of work, marriage, family
yes, life was sometimes boring
but she had everything she thought she needed
husband, kids, money, job, home
she was already in her happily-ever-after
not perfect, but she was content
this was the rest of her life
or so she thought
the world began shifting around her
a move, a retirement, a cancer diagnosis
changes in others' lives affecting her own
but being left and abandoned
by her high school sweetheart, "soulmate", "only one"
was the icing on the cake
her heart, the family, what didn't he shatter?
he didn't take much but sure left a lot of damage
her dream of the future dispersed in an instant
her best friend now a stranger
most treasured memories now devoid of emotion
the sidekick became the villain in this story
prince turned into an evil stepmother
her life had peaked and she was left to fall
but that's not true
she was forced to adapt
and therefore forced to rise
a queen doesn't need a prince or king
there had been pieces of her turned gray
disappearing along with him, leaving holes
which she later came to see as blank slates
that she can now fill with color
her dream may have been destroyed
but now she was truly awake
and could accept everything life had to offer
with open arms, open eyes
no longer just settling
possibilities now endless
her 30s came with a new chapter
and she can write anything in the pages
