She is the victim

I was listening to amusing radio jockey’s laughter when my younger sister came from school. Aisha is a joyful 8 years old girl, who hysterically laughs with me often, whenever we sit together and chat.  I had forgotten my sorrowful life when she entered our room. She started talking like a parrot.

I listened attentively. "On my way to home I saw a half-naked man. His trouser was below his hip” Aisha told me. I was surprised to hear my innocent sister’s stories. She had a habit of sharing with me incidents and some of her daily problems.

"Were you scared?”

She quickly answered, "yes, yes, I was. I couldn’t believe my eyes”

"Oh is it really that terrible? That’s disgusting. You shouldn’t look at those men” I tried to advise her.

"I didn’t but that man was following me” She kept on talking.

Why should he follow you? Your stupid thoughts” I was trying to calm her.

She giggled

I abruptly ran to answer my phone leaving her in the room. My mother asked me if Aisha has come home.

"I have been waiting near the school gate for half an hour” she complained.

"Don’t worry mum. She is at home. I think children were sent home early”

When I came to my room Aisha was getting ready to go to the tuition class. I prepared her lunch.

"I love noodles. This rice and vegetable curry is not tasty” Aisha grudged.

"You better eat healthy food instead of a cup of boiled noodles”

I sliced an apple and packed it for her recess.

"I want a burger” Again Aisha complained.

"You must eat healthy food. Already you are overweight. You must have a good diet” I advised her. "Someone is knocking on the door Aisha. Go and check?” I told her quickly

"I know who it is. Mom came to take me for tuition class” She took her bag and went with mother.

Sitting on the sofa I started reading "Blood Line” by Sidney Sheldon. My mind was drifted into the story.

"How can that boy survive?” What a harsh life?” I felt sorry for the main character and tears filled my eyes. I read the story for more than two hours and realized nothing could achieve without hard work.

"Tony is a hero” I murmured. "Some people are very brave and have a sense of good humor too”

Mother came in and asked, "Who is so brave?”

"Oh no one. I just wondered if there are very brave people.” I lied

"Yes there are. Haven’t you heard of the heroes who have sacrificed their life in the war?”

"Yes I have heard. They sacrifice their life for the sake of others..” I commented. "Some of them might be the victim of the war”

Mother laughed and said,” Most of the time war is based on personal gains”

She hand washed her hands and hurriedly went to answer her phone. "What? Who are you?” She nervously talked.

"What happened” I asked

"Someone has taken Aisha to the hospital.” She sobbed

"Alas! Who could harm such an innocent child? Was it an accident?”

We rushed to the hospital by a taxi. Aisha’s head was bandaged and she was crying softly.

When we went near her bed the stranger explained, "There was a mob near the park and they were throwing stones at each other and accidently a stone hit on Aisha’s head while she was waiting for her parents near the tuition class.”

I took a deep breath and softly whispered, "She is a victim of the war”
