Darkness
I sit on frozen waters; stars being eaten by the darkness.
Around me nameless faces waiting to consume me.
I cry out to the heavens; breathy, ghostly, soundless.
I run towards the shelter in my desperate need to flee.
But they are all around me, wanting to include me.
And Lady Darkness leads them, a staff upon her hip.
They are eager soldiers, not a coward in their ranks.
And I am but a stranger in this land of no escape.
My legs are now both leaden. Deadness underneath me.
My arms are rendered powerless in my attempt to fight.
And now I flail out madly with feathered arms beside me
Their impact landing softly upon my enemy.
Now suddenly the darkness gives way to Lady Morning.
She wakens me and settles me into her lovely arms.
Lightness all around me bathes me in its softness.
And the frightening lair of darkness is a million miles away.
Author's Notes:
Written in college. I have always had some pretty outrageous nightmares. I wrote this about nightmares in general.

Excellent work, Dori. You really evoke the fear that nightmares bring. I've had a few myself, so I can relate to this.

I like this. "Stars being eaten by the darkness". Ooh. I wish I'd said that. I like this very much. I hope all your darkness stays "a million miles away". I really like this. ML
