The Beast
The beast laid beneath the cooling shade;
A twist of reality.
And in the sun, he writhed
And shunned the daylight's mediocrity.

Shedding, shedding light.

Slimy and jaded, the lecher waited
For the moon's wax and wane.
Then, slithering fast, the creature passed
The children's window pane.

Dreading, dreading light.

And, though deep, the children's sleep
Was restless and disturbed.
With the thought of that, the creature laughed
And went on undeterred.

Fearing, fearing day.

Through people's slumber he's pillaged and plundered
Using their fears as pawns.
Only stopping as he hears
The tolling bells of dawn.

Nearing, nearing day.

A nightmare in the mind, like a poisonous vine
Chokes us.

Yeah, it does. Look out Steven King. This is creepy. And spooky. And scary. And good. I know you wouldn't get crazy and tell this to the boys at bedtime. Would you? No. Of course not. Dori, this is good. ML
