Jesus Blues
"Hey girl, stop where you are.
What you doin' with that life of yours?"
"Nothin', Lord." said she.
"Just waitin' on eternity."

"Listen up, I've got news.
See, I've got plans for you."
"Hey, Lord, I'm not ready now.
Gotta get my life together somehow."

He said, "Give me your eternity.
Shine my light upon your world.
Give me your everything.
Won't let you down, little girl."

So she hid her face from His truth,
And she said, "Lord, go away!"
But He persevered and said, "Follow me.
Trust in me. I'll never leave."

And she had been lookin' for someone to stick around,
Who'd love her right and help her down.
So she said, "Okay, Lord, but give me a day.
Then I'll be ready to go your way."

And He said, "Give me your forever.
Gotta let go right now, see
Cause I got others who need your help.
You gotta believe in me."

"Hey, Lord, I'm just so scared.
Never left my shell, you know?"
But He said, "Girl, I don't care.
You're gonna walk where others don't dare."

So she took His hands and said,
"Here goes nothin, Lord!"
And she left behind her life
For heaven, tears, joy, and strife.

Author's Notes:
Written in 1993 Just something I threw together after contemplating my on-again-off-again commitment to Christ. And I had been listening to Stevie Ray that day. Strange combination.

Not a strange combination at all since Stevie didn't end at death. Remember, The House Is Rockin', Don't Bother knocking, The House Is Rockin', Don't Bother, Come On In. Didn't Jesus say the same thing in a different way? Great poem you have here.
