I Meant the Words
I meant the words I said last night
but tried to take them back
I only wish instead that I
had known how you'd react

You told me that you wanted me
but wanted something less
I thought you asked for honesty
so I chose to confess

I dove in head-first; truthfully
You needed me to lie
I wasn't what you thought I'd be
You wanted "just some guy"

I thought of almost every way
that you could then reply
Like tell me that you needed space
or maybe start to cry

But you just layed there silently
not knowing what to say
You closed your eyes and smiled at me
and turned your head away

Maybe it was not so much
the words as where I found them
But woven in your gentle touch
I could not see around them

So out they came and landed there
but did not make a dent
I woke to find just empty air
but soon knew where you went

For on the pillow next to mine
I found the reasons why
Three little words so well defined
Your own form of goodbye

So good or bad the secrets out
Those simple words you wrote
The last thing I'd have thought about
you spelled out in your note

I meant the words regardless of
Your impact on my life
Last night I said, "I am in love"
You wrote, "I'm someone's wife"
Author's Notes:
Kind of a weird one...just kept banging around in my head so I had to get rid of it one way or another :) (thanks for the help Dixon)
