*Do You Want to be Popular?*
It's not my fault that you like me,

I really wish that you wouldn't...

Because if I don't like me,

I think the rest of the world shouldn't.

Everyone wants to be popular,

But most don't know what it means.

They don't understand all the work

That goes on behind scenes.

'Cause I know when I go out,

Every eye is on me.

So I have to be constantly concious

Of what they might see.

Because when everyone loves you...

They still want you to fail.

Always on top of my game...

Lest someone else would prevail.

Always knowing people listen

That I'm not speaking to;

Looking for weakness

And holes to sneak through.

It's natural for you to want

Your 15 minutes of fame,

But know once you have it

The rest is a game.

It's all about image--

Keeping face, looking good--

But it's hard to live life

Completely misunderstood.

When everyone knows you

And no one knows who you are,

The things you must go through

To be viewed as a star...

And now that I'm here,

I don't like a single cool kid...

I wish I was ugly,

So I'd think that I did.

Or back to being a skater

With dreams and ambitions...

Walking through life

On one of my missions,

Because popular kid

Means nothing in life,

Except your first 22 years

With extra stresses and strife.

I was always too cool to be popular...well at least that's what I always told myself.... This was a good write.  I could feel where you were coming from and glad not to be any part of it.  Nice work on this one.

All Popularity Does Is Cause Problems. This Poem Proves It The Best.
Congratulations On Your Award, Well Earned and Well Deserved!

I never wanted to be one of the popular people in my highschool. Grant it you know I wish I could be viewed as you know someone pretty...but not really wanting to be one of the popular people because they all talked trash on each other. I had a big enough group to hang out with and I knew who I could trust and who I couldn't. But this is a wonderful write. My favorite part is "It's all about image--
Keeping face, looking good--" Keep them coming. :)

Perfect wording, wonderful perspective, and an over all ace in the hole. At 24 myself I must say I can relate well to that. Congrats on the well-deserved "feature" :) Keep it up!!!

I know exactly what you mean. It made highschool so hard. Everyone wants to be popular, but once you have it, you don't want it. But it goes with the saying "you always want what you don't have". Right. But once you grow up, you realize, popularity means jack. Great write.
