Even Through Adversity
(Dediacted to Terry Fox,1958-1981)

Many years ago I have lost the essence of my humanity
I was confined to depths of hell
and my soul was sentenced to a life of captivity
I was lost, confused and had welcomed defeat
I thought never again will I sense that feeling of pride and inner peace
At age nine I was pressured to accept the role of being a man
but there was still so much I needed to learn and things I didn't understand
My father abandoned me and my family so we had to survive on our own
he was a selfish, corrupted bastard with a heart as cold as stone
But together me and my family persevered, overcoming the obstacles of life
confronting our demons and fears found deep in the depths of the night
I believe hope was the catalyst that helped me survive
against the trials and tribulations of life, from which my heart was revived
Through all the harsh experiences I had to overcome
I believe it was a test from above to show the type of person I would become
I endured the ridicule, the criticism and still continued to thrive
I fought through the adversity to keep my dreams alive
At times I felt conceded and had thoughts of suicide
but the promises I made to myself keep me and my dreams alive
Now I fight on courageously with the knowledge of better days
I will follow my heart to its limits then exceed them beyond display
Hope and faith is the foundation to my success
I was inspired by the hearts of mankind
and had a mother who was truly blessed
When times were bitter and hope was lost
I still carried on to achieve my dreams
with the intention to accomplish them at any cost
If my dreams are ever shattered will I have the courage to try again?
the answer is only yes with the aid of my loving family and friends
I'm trying to live life to the fullest and on my way I'm correcting my mistakes
living a life of happiness with a sense of pride and a change of pace
Even Through adversity, prejudice and racism I still managed to keep it together
holding strong to my rights and beliefs with a dream that would last forever
Surrendering was never an option against the desires of my heart
I was compelled to face the truth ever since the very start
My spirit will continue to fight even after I'm gone
against all the adversity in the world with dreams that will forever live on
