~The Front Row~
Today is the day, and I can't believe it's here;
to get a front row seat instead of a rear.

I should be elated; it should be a treat,
but instead to the rear I'd like to retreat.

We all sit erectly, eight siblings of nine,
with no smiles at all in this front row of mine.

It seems we just did this not very long ago.
We let go of a brother before his time to go.

He took his own life with a gun to his chest.
He did ask for permission, but we never said yes.

Now today is another day that we'll always remember.
We let go of now our eldest family member.

Another loss to suicide and I am damn mad.
Never could I have dreamt it would take my dad.

The front row seat I will now always dread,
for to me that now means that a loved one is dead.
Author's Notes:
Having two family members take their own lives was tragic for me and my family. The front row to me seems to draw other people's attention. In a way I felt like we were all on display. All of those questioning eyes still haunt me, and I have always felt the need to write something about that experience.

Firstly, Karen, my condolences on your losses within your family...It must be a horrendous burden feeling being in the front row.....Great insight to the plight of losing so much, tearful, but written with a caring pen....Good work, Karen..

this is a wonderful write Karen, I too have sat in the front row, the reasons are different, but the feelings inside over the loss of a loved one are just as emotional. My condolences to you and your family. Welcome to our humble home.
