Honeymoon
This is my husband lying here;
Sleeping with his arm across his eyes.
Napping in the shirt he wore today.
The sun sets over the Mississippi River outside our balcony.
I am in a robe, freshly bathed
Waiting for our mini-coffee pot to finish it's task.
A dogwood bloom lolls in my hand.
It did me the honor of resting behind my ear
Today as we took pictures on the grounds.
Peace and quiet settles on the bluffs of Natchez
As I watch my new husband slumber.
Soon, he will wake and we will dine;
Rosy-cheeked and in-love.
Newlyweds, blissful newlyweds.
And a peace settles upon my heart
As I listen to his soft, even breathing.
He will always be here. His love will always be here.
As mighty as the river outside my window.
As unfailing as the bluffs on which it rests.
As peaceful as the breath I hear across the room.
As eternal as the sunset fading in the west.
Author's Notes:
The third and fourth night of our honeymoon, we stayed at a plantation called The Briars in Natchez, Mississippi. It was the family home of the woman Jefferson Davis married. They were married in the parlor of that house. Our room overlooked the Mississippi River. We had great naps there. We saw some spectacular sunsets.

Glorious. Just glorious. What a warm and wonderful tribute to the perfect honeymoon and the beginning of a marriage "As eternal as the sunset fading in the west". The picture is great too. You are glowingly beautiful, and the hunk is gorgeous. The poem is great. I love it. ML
